Contentment. Yah, that's a hard one.

"Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me." — Hebrews 13:5-6 (KJV)
I have read this verse many times, and yet, the second part of it never really sunk in: "So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me." I've always wondered in what way that related to the contentment part of the verse. Then today it hit me. When we are content, we don't worry what man (i.e., an employer, someone suing us, a theif) can do to us. We don't have that fear that we're going to lose the money (or things) we have, because we know that the LORD is our helper. He is the source of all that we need. If He will take care of us, no matter what happens, then what do we have to fear?

If we realize the LORD is our helper first and foremost, then we will have an easier time being content. I found myself struggling with the contentment just yesterday. I had allowed things to build up, and finally the fuse blew and I started bellowing out complaints while alone in our mobile home, trying to clean but struggling with an extension cord to the floor fan. A fan we have to have because we don't have central air conditioning; instead, we have window units. Then I cried out to the Lord to please provide us with a house, and one with central air and heat, followed by repenting profusely for complaining.

How appropriate that I saw the above verse today, and in a new way. It was loving yet firm reminder of who my Helper is, and that He will take care of me and all my needs.
